After a couple days, #1 was going well but we were not making progress with #2 (literally). He certainly tried (I thought he was going to give himself a hernia) in the moment, but nothing was happening.
It wasn't until we introduced stars (little stickers he got to put on a piece of paper) that things seemed to click for Gideon. The stars quickly got renamed, "poop stars". So, each day Gideon excitedly tells me he got another poop star and totals them up.

So glad you posted pictures of this. Makai just happens to be sitting next to me and saw them. "Look mommy!" "Yes, Gideon is learning to go poop in the potty too! See, even cousins go poop in the potty." "Okay!" Which is awesome because somedays I run out of people he'd relate to and think it was cool that they go potty in order to motivate him more. Love the hernia comment too. We started giving 1 sticker for pee and 3 for poop (that's how desperate I am not to have to clean poop out of underwear). Days 1-3 I totally thought Makai was going to give himself a hernia too lol. Good luck!
