Some Car History

Megan and I noticed that we have yet to buy from the same car manufacturer twice. We've always bought different make/model each time we've bought a car. Here's are all the cars we've owned so:

1999 Jeep Wrangler (1999-2002): Megan owned this car when we met. She bought it brand new and babied this car. We drove from Maine to Utah in it. We sold this car after Tate was born because it was so difficult to put him in the backseat; and we couldn't take the top off because it would be too windy/sunny for him.

1994 Mazda Protege (1999-2008) : This is the car I owned when Megan and I met. I actually bought it from Leon (my brothero-in-law) after my mission. I really liked this car. In fact, I liked it so much, when it broke down sometime in 2007, we bought a 1993 model that was just like it in every way. So, technically, we have owned a car of the same make/model, but it was so similar, I feel like it was the same car. I actually sold this car to my brother, Matt, who drove it for another 3 years, then sold it to someone else.

2000 Volkswagen Passat (2002-2015): This car was interesting. We bought it as a salvage from a flood in Texas (that's what we were told). It was a really nice car for the price but we were plagued by electrical problems for years. The worst one was when it wouldn't start when we tried to leave a family reunion up in the Uintahs and Uncle Mark had to tow it down to his house. Another was when the passenger seat electronic adjuster stopped working while the seat was an extreme forward position. It was really bad because I was in a 5-person carpool. So, on the day I drove, someone had to sit in the seat with their face jammed against the dash. The next weekend I went to a junkyard, got a new seat, and installed it.

2005 Volvo XC90 (2008-present): In 2008, we bought the Volvo because we had Harper and it got really hard to fit all the kids (and their car seats) into the back of the passat. This was our first big family car. It sat seven people. We eventually filled it up; necessitating the cargo carrier on top. Today, it's now the kids' (Tate's) car. It's in pretty lousy shape but keeps truckin' on.

2011 GMC Acadia (2015 - present): After the Passat died, we got the Acadia. It was an improvement over the Volvo because it had captains chairs; so the kids didn't have to put a seat down, or worse, climb over the second row to get to the back seats. This has really been our adventure mobile because all the kids moved out of the diapers and we were really able to start doing fun stuff.

For the most part, it's been a good car. There was that time Megan and I were driving back from Mexico and it abruptly broke down in Kingman Arizona. Megan flew home and I spent several days there until it got fixed.

It will now be my commuter car.
