Family Adventure Complaining

I've been trying to go on a hike/adventure each month. The kids really don't like going. Hudson is the most resistant but the sentiment seems to spread to the others.

On the last hike, the north canyon trail, the kids we in a really bad mood. They kept running off and hiding. The funny thing is we never even made it to the trail. I didn't want to drive the car on the muddy road because the Acadia still had some parts hanging down from it when we ran over a grate during our Coyote Gulch campout. So, while walking along the dirt road, some guy got stuck and we spent 45 exhausting minutes trying to pull him out. We finally got him out. Hudson and I got sprayed with dirt in the process. The good news is that by the end of the hike, the kids were laughing, happy and content.

Anyway, I did have some leverage this time because it was Father's Day (they had to do what I say, right?), but it didn't stop the kids from quarreling the entire drive up to the Logan canyon. As we started up the trail, the kids kept at each other.

Sidenote: in addition to being obsessed with time, Gideon really likes being dialed in on our progress when we are hiking. He always wants to know where we are at and how much further we need to go.

The kids continued to bicker all the way up to the caves.

What's funny is usually, once we reach the destination, the kids put aside their differences and start having fun. But it's exasperating to endure.

Here's the family making silly poses for me.
